Mt Muir via Ranger Lake, with Luke and Brendon – 2016/12/04

Here’s a first, I did the video before the blog entry. “Struggle” is the word of the day. A fine ride, we rode our butts off and had a blast. (Broken GPX track due the GPS taking a swim.)

The video, in combination with the GPX track pretty much covers it. The GPX track is broken as the GPS either didn’t like the cold, or the swim it got… but there are several posts with tracks to the summit.

Anderson/Tugwell has seen some improvements since I was last up there. They were actively logging where “the tugwell spur” cuts to the left and there is a new culvert in the crossing that was right there. In fact the road has been rebuilt for one or two kilometers farther… at which point the new road cuts to the right and the old road looks like a trail/track heading north (left). So the road to that point was trivial. From Ranger lake to the summit was easy enough (just the tank trap where the roads join), and the route down to Muir Main is big bike friendly for a competent rider.
